Can real strategy work on a touchscreen?

Can real strategy work on a touchscreen?

June 4, 2026 · Lukas Brandt

Strategy games and small screens have always had an awkward relationship. Too many units, too many menus, too little space. Iron Tide Command convinced us it can be done if the designer is disciplined.

The trick is limiting scope. Instead of a hundred unit types, you get a handful with clear roles, and the map is small enough to read at a glance. Every decision matters more because there are fewer of them.

Our one tip: scout before you build. The game punishes players who commit to a defence layout before knowing where the pressure comes from. We lost three matches learning that.

It's not for everyone. But for anyone who misses proper planning games on the go, it's worth a look.
